AHRC – Lousy to Employees

There are so many good things that are happening at AHRC for Mikey that I hate to have to talk about how bad they are to their employees. As you are probably aware, Michel fell down the stairs here at home back at the end of June and spent three days in the ICU. She hasn’t been able to go back to work (she is a nurse taking care of people at the various group homes/facilities run by AHRC) because she is still recovering so she put in for disability figuring that she would go back sometime around the beginning of September. Last week she received a note in the mail saying that she was terminated effective the previous week. No call from her supervisor. No attempt to talk to her about when she could come back. The week before they had called her and asked her to bring her work cell phone in because “they needed it for a temporary fill-in” so they had to know she was being terminated which means they looked Michel right in the face and lied to her. You would think that 1) an organization dedicated to helping the disabled would be more concerned and considerate towards Michel and 2) that Michel’s boss would at least have the common decency to call her and let her know that they were going to let her go. So to the people at the AHRC office in Plainview, I hope you go to grass and the horses eat you (as my mother-in-law would say).
Meanwhile, Beth has been volunteering at the AHRC school in Brookville and is having a wonderful summer. She puts in at least 12 hours per week working with autistic children. Plus she gets to have lunch with Mikey every day. Too bad that not everyone at AHRC cares as much for the disabled.
