Time for this week’s song from my iPod:

Blink-182 - Not NowBlink-182 is a pop punk trio from Poway, Claifornia. The group was formed in 1992 and is made up of Tom DeLonge (vocals, guitar), Mark Hoppus (vocals, bass) and Travis Barker (drums). Scott Raynor was the original drummer but he was asked to leave the group in 1998 because of a drinking problem. When the group started, Hoppus was told by his girlfriend that he was spending too much time practicing and had to choose between her and the band. He originally chose her but a short time later changed his mind and chose the band.

The group has had huge commercial success with their 1998 album, Enema of the State selling over 15 million copies. Their two albums released after that both went platinum and were #1 and #3 on Billboard’s Top 200. Their most recent album was a greatest hits album released in 2005. The song “Not Now” was originally planned for their 2003 album but didn’t make it so was added to the greatest hits album two years later. According to DeLonge, “This song is…about when you die and you’ve just figured out you’ve died. You’re standing there looking at your lady and…you’re trying to say ‘goodbye’ but it’s too late…She can’t see you and she doesn’t know you’re there.”

The group broke up in 2005 because of tensions between the members. Tours (including a charity performance) planned for 2005 were canceled and the group officially broke up in February 2005. However, at the Grammy Awards ceremony last month, the group announced that they had reformed, would tour this summer, and that a new album would be released in 2010.

Not Now
Come here, please hold my hand for now
Help me, I’m scared please show me how to fight this,
God has a master plan
And I guess
I am in his demand
Please save me this time I cannot run
And I’ll see you when this is done
And now I have come to realize
That you are the one who’s left behind

Please stay until I’m gone
I’m here hold on to me I’m right here
Waiting

I see, a light it feels good
And I’ll come back soon just like you would
It’s useless, my name has made the list
And I wish, I gave you one last kiss

Please stay until I’m gone
I’m here hold on to me I’m right here
Waiting and take
My one last breath, and don’t forget
That I will be right here
Waiting

Please stay until I’m gone
I’m here hold on to me I’m right here
Waiting and take
My one last breath, and don’t forget
That I will be right here
Waiting
