Seriously, these boys are GENIOUSES and the fact that they objectify women is what makes them so hott!!
I have to admit, the first few times that I heard that song I absolutely loathed it. With a passion. I found it unbelievable not only that they would dare to make such degrading statements towards women, but that girls would actually listen to them!
Then, the song got stuck in my head.
I listened to it, over and over. It began to feel like a guilty pleasure. So I listened to their other songs, and I fell for them. It was a constant love/hate battle, but it wasnt until recently that I admitted it was love.
Now, this is where the genious part of them comes in:
It is said that if you want to win a woman’s heart, you have to affect her EMOTIONS. In a BIG way. It doesn’t matter if it is a negative or positive emotion, what matters is that you don’t go unnoticed, because ” from hate to love there’s only one small step.”

Well, it’s true!! Goddamnitt….

Let’s not forget their extremely catchy tunes.
These guys are geniouses, GENIOUSES I tell you!!

That is one way to explain the song but of course it ignores what the lyrics actually say. Think of groupies. And not every musician wants them around or wants to hear from them. And the line is telling her to shut up, stop telling him lies, and just dance.

I strongly disagree. To have young girls hearing, repeatedly, Shush girl, shut your hips, wiggle your hips — is a not-so-subtle social message. Don’t talk. Stifle yourself. Just give me your body. It’s the ultimate in objectification of a woman. I’m really sad this is still getting an audience in 2009. Every time I hear it I plan to contact 20 people and tell them to complain to radio station 99.5 and ask them to STOP promoting this by playing it on the airwaves. IT’s degrading; there is no debating it folks, as much as you might like the beat. You are NOT overly sensitive if this hurts your feelings because it degrades disabled people as well. TO say, “They didn’t mean it” or “it’s supposed to be funny,” is to suggest that the racist entertainment of the 40′s and 50′s presenting AFrican-Americans tap dancing over watermelons was also “funny” and “no one meant it that way.” GET REAL people. This song needs a good national boycott and the message to the band starts with YOU and ME. GET IT OFF THE AIR.

Basically.
It’s just so…catchy. XD
Not to mention, it gets stuck in your head so easily. That’s how I actually started listening to them. One of my friends put the song on, and it just stuck with me. XD

I don’t have a problem with the Helen Keller reference because it isn’t meant as an insult to people who are disabled. They are only saying, “Shut your mouth.” And, of course, the whole song is meant as a joke. If you watch the video you can see that these guys really aren’t taking themselves seriously. When the two of them got together, they were in other groups and thought this was just going to be some fun to “drop some rhymes.”

And Beth, it isn’t noon yet! What are you doing up!!! And I’ve listened to the song about a dozen times. It sounds like a song that would go over big at a rave.
