Life just flows along so I’m a little late but here is the song of the week from my iPod.

Feist - 1234Feist is the name used by Canadian singer-songwriter, Leslie Feist. Born in Nova Scotia, Feist spent most of her time growing up in Saskatchewan and Alberta after her parents divorced. Feist was one of the 1000 dancers who performed during the opening ceremonies of the Calgary Olympic Games in 1988. Feist has been in various groups since she was 15 in 1991. Her solo career began in 1999 but it was 2008 that was her huge year. At the 2008 Juno Awards in Calgary, she was the top winner with five awards, including Songwriter of the Year, Artist of the Year, Pop Album of the Year, Album of the Year, and Single of the Year.

The album The Reminder, her third solo album, has been hugely successful. The song “1234″ which she co-wrote with Sally Seltmann of New Buffalo was a huge surprise hit based solely on downloads. The song was used in a commercial for the iPod Nano which caused it to crush the charts reaching #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #8 on the UK charts. Time magazine named “1234″ one of The 10 Best Songs of 2007, ranking it at #2. Writer Josh Tyrangiel called the song a “masterpiece,” praising Feist for singing it “with a mixture of wisdom and exuberance that’s all her own.” Feist performed “1234″ on Sesame Street. She said working with the Muppets was a career highlight.

1234
One, two, three, four
Tell me that you love me more
Sleepless long nights
That is what my youth was for

Old teenage hopes are alive at your door
Left you with nothing but they want some more

Oh, you’re changing your heart
Oh, You know who you are

Sweetheart bitterheart now I can’t tell you apart
Cosy and cold, put the horse before the cart

Those teenage hopes who have tears in their eyes
Too scared to own up to one little lie

Oh, you’re changing your heart
Oh, you know who you are

One, two, three, four, five, six, nine, or ten
Money can’t buy you back the love that you had then
One, two, three, four, five, six, nine, or ten
Money can’t buy you back the love that you had then

Oh, you’re changing your heart
Oh, you know who you are
Oh, you’re changing your heart
Oh, you know who you are
Oh, who you are

For the teenage boys
They’re breaking your heart
For the teenage boys
They’re breaking your heart
