bethpage-parkwayOnce again, Mikey wanted to go for a drive but this time the weather was much nicer. I had to pick up Beth from a sleepover so I couldn’t go for a long drive so we decided to drive the length of the Bethpage State Parkway. This Parkway is one of the least used Parkways so there is never traffic on it. It’s only two lanes and ends at a traffic circle in Bethpage Park, which you might have heard of from the US Open Golf Tournament. It was supposed to go further north but due to community opposition, the road was never extended so the right-of-way that was purchased was turned into Trail View State Park, which is one of the narrowest parks you will ever find.

Mikey enjoys the ride because there are lots of trees to look at and an occasional bicyclist or pedestrian going along the trail that runs along the Parkway. We drive down to Southern State Parkway, take a quick hop over to Bethpage State Parkway, and then head back home after a stop at McDonald’s for Mikey’s favorite lunch, a chicken nugget happy meal. Sunday we had to detour to pick up Beth from her sleepover, which apparently didn’t involve any sleeping. After getting home, she slept from 1PM Sunday until 6:30AM Monday.

You can see from the picture that the leaves are turning. Many of the trees are still green but within the next couple of weeks they should all be blazing in their colorful beauty as they prepare for their winter rest. Was that poetic enough for you? ;)
