A Novel Beth Didn’t Like
You may remember early last year I wrote about reducing entire novels to Twitterspeak. The idea is to get the novel down to 140 characters or less. This one is for Beth… can you (or anyone else) name the novel?
Boy loves girl who marries rich Dude. Boy gets rich ruins rich Dude marries his sister. Girl laments, dies. All lament on moors. Kate Bush sings.

You nailed it! Beth recognized it right away but didn’t know about Kate Bush.

I didn’t know about Kate Bush but I knew by the fifth word – just tell her to talk endlessly about keys, locks, and lockets and she will do great – I had to read that book once or twice in high school then again in lit 1, then again when I changed universites for another degree because “US schools don’t have the rigor of teaching” – ack! I heard that Bush or Clinton kept it on the bedstand and there are clubs who read it every year. I have been on those moors and unless you love freezing wind, it ain’t romantic. What did she think of Kill a Mockingbird or Lord of the Flies?

I did like To Kill A Mockingbird. It was a good book. I actually never read Lord of the Flies. My 10th grade English class was the only one that didn’t read it. I’ve heard mixed reviews of it my friends.

We didn’t read this when I was in high school. I read a lot of the 19th century and early 20th century novels outside of school and this was one of those I started and tossed a few chapters in.
