Years ago, when Tavish was about 6, we visited the Tower of London. I had explained to him that when Anne was beheaded, they brought a French swordsman to do the deed. As a result she remained standing and her head went flying. Tavish wanted to know where her head landed, and to my amazement, the Beefeater showed him where. It is the little things that make history so fascinating.

I remember reading about the French swordsman. Apparently English swordsmen were klutzes and often needed several hacks to get the job done. Henry being a thoughtful husband wanted the job to be quick and painless, therefore the Frenchman was called in to do the job. As to where the head landed, it’s too bad they didn’t have a batsman waiting on the pitch.
